I used to say, “if you can’t make money WITHOUT money, you can’t make money WITH money either.” And I was SORT OF right, maybe 50% right.
The truth is, it IS easier to make money with money than to make it without, but for reasons that I didn’t realize until I had built my business and income to a certain point. I USED to think that it was easier to make money WITH money because if you had money you could afford things like:
— ads
— employees
— pay to pay opportunities like coaching or live events or PR.
To be honest, for a LOOOOONG time I RESENTED my bootstrap business story. Even as I TOUTED my “started this business with a $50 investment” story and used it to SELL my coaching services, I resented it. The HARD truth to admit is:
I envied those women whose husbands were funding NOT ONLY their wives actual existence but also her business, the branding and the stage time and the high dollar events. I called them husband-funded. 😊 Yeah, not my BEST moment, but it I were to be COMPLETELY honest, that phrase STILL jumps out of my mouth from time to time. **wink**
While I was making great money, EVEN at the beginning, i always felt like I couldn’t get ahead. Everything I made paid for 1) my bills and 2) my business bills. And — hey — this isn’t a BAD place to be. I know a lot of business owners who DON’T make enough to support themselves.
Still, I always felt TORN between the money I needed right now and the money I wanted to make to build my DREAM business. I’ve spoken on it many times, this struggle between “Right now Money” and Future money.
I knew what kind of business I wanted. I wanted multiple income streams. I wanted LEVERAGED income that would allow me to do something once and get paid MANY times for it. I wanted money that was NOT tied to me trading dollars for hours, no matter HOW much money I was charging per hour.
And I wanted it to be simple. Not easy, necessarily, but simple. I didn’t want complex or chaotic. I had no desire for a huge team or a busy travel schedule.
What’s MORE is that I knew 1) it was possible and 2) that it was possible FOR ME.
It’s just that I had no MARGIN financially to build it. I ate what I killed, you know? There’s no shame in it.
BUT here is what I learned… once I DID make a lot more money:
1) I would have ADAMANTLY denied this, but I had become DEPENDENT on the URGENCY of needing money, whether it was for a new car or a new HVAC system or whatever. I had LEARNED to perform at my best with my back against the wall.
2) It’s EASIER to make money when you HAVE money — not because of the ads or the live events (I eventually figured out how to attend them all for FREE) or the coaching, like I used to think– but because when you ARE NOT NEEDING X action or conversation to lead to Y financial result TODAY… you get to be more creative. You are more flexible and more able to slow things down to be more intentional.
(Note: The life of a farmer is FAR more stable than the life of a nomadic hunter. In the earlier years I went where the clients were… NOW, I have cultivated a garden of sorts in the market… a garden built on my own land, nurtured by my own hand, and so I can PATIENTLY and CONFIDENTLY wait for the harvest.)
3) When your bank account is already fat and your overhead is pretty low, you get to be more INTENTIONAL about the clients you want. So, they get better results, you get to charge more and work with fewer of them, so you gain a waiting list.
BUT… the worst “truth” that I can share
… the hardest one that cost me the most time
spinning my wheels in struggle and angst and ENVY….
(woman, I HATE envy. It feels foreign to me when it pops up and it is my LEAST favorite thing to feel)
Is this one:
4) I had COMPLICATED success and put it on a PEDESTAL. I had built this story that I needed this, that and the other stupid thing before I could start offering those leveraged income streams, and before I could EXPECT a large email list and industry influence.
I don’t traffic in regret,
but this one is hard.
Because I DETEST wasted time,
especially time wasted
SO FAR BENEATH my potential,
and even my destiny.
So, that was a long introduction to the REAL sermon. 😊 HERE is ALL you need to build a business that provides you with an income you are PROUD to earn, an income that changes things, an income that ends the struggle in that arena:
The concepts are laid out below,

👉 PLACE. As a strategy. Too few people discuss or leverage this, or even give it proper attention. Place, AS A STRATEGY. Our MOST profitable 1:1 coach within WOW makes around $815K each year. 👉 PRICE. Again, as a strategy. But not ONLY as a strategy…. (I once held a 2 or 3 day live workshop ONLY on price. lol… there’s a LOT here to apply!) but also price as a LEVER. Your prices HAVE to make sense, and they DO speak on your behalf. We’ll make sure your prices are singing the right tune.
👉 PREVENTING LOSS. i’m not talking about your employees stealing time or getting gas on the company card. I’m talking about BUILDING FENCES to protect against a loss of clients, time, energy or money. As well as a BIT about the loss of reputation / standing / influence within an industry IF that applies
.
👉 PERSONIFICATION AS BRAND STRATEGY. This is about aggrandizing your brand, not just being KNOWN, but being known FOR and AS something you choose DELIBERATELY to be known for and as. This includes — but is not limited to — strategic curation and creation of:
👉 Your authority-building bio
👉 The stories you tell,
👉 the analogies you use (and why they are IMPERATIVE for quick client conversion)
👉 the jokes you make,
👉 HOW you show up online and off,
and so much more you probably think “doesn’t matter.” OH, but it does.
It SOOO matters.
You see, to be a SAVAGE SUCCESS…
a success story that is a BIT wild,
and maybe considered “uncivilized” due to the RUTHLESS way you proceed without paying homage to what’s popular or trending…
a success story that is FOLLOWED and WATCHED…
vs. following and watching…
you’ve got to have the COURAGE to take it apart,
keep the BEST parts,
retool, rework rebuild
according to a fully custom model of what YOU want from this business.
