A coach, copywriter, doctor, attorney, and accountant ALL require the SAME THING in order to help you: Raw, REAL Honesty. You have to be willing to be honest with them about where you REALLY are… CURRENTLY.
Not social media-post honest. **wink** But HONEST honest. Otherwise, they are not in a position to help. You’re actually PREVENTING them from being in a position to help, and wasting everyone’s time.
If your marriage is struggling, but you play the role of the happy housewife in every therapy appointment, the therapist can’t help. You haven’t put them in a position to help.
If your house is under water and you’re behind on payments, but you refuse to mention such a thing to the person helping you on a refi…. they can’t help. You haven’t put them in a position to help.
If your toilet won’t flush and you call a plumber but HIDE the fact that your tub ALSO backs up and your dishwasher ALSO won’t drain…. the plumber MAY be able to do a bit.. but they can’t really help. You haven’t put them in a position to help.
If your book isn’t selling, but you keep padding your numbers… even BUYING books in bulk yourself, your book coach can’t help you sell more books. You haven’t put them in a position to help.
If you’re not losing weight, and you’re reporting “ideal” food diaries to your keto coach, instead of ACTUAL food diaries, they can’t help. You haven’t put them in a position to help.
If you’re reporting monthly business income to your business coach, financial planner, divorce attorney or accountant…. and you’re including your husband’s income, the rental income for the house next door (that you don’t own, lol…) AND the stimulus check you got…. lol…. they will NOT know how to help you. You haven’t put them in a position to help.
I am ALL ABOUT the spin. But if ANYONE encourages you to LIE to the people you mean to serve… as a marketing strategy…. cobble together numbers to make it SEEM like this… when it’s REALLY like that…
1) fire them.
2) it will NOT work.
3) you’ll never win hearts and have LIFELONG clients operating under this ruse.
I started out teaching people HOW TO REPLACE THEIR EMPLOYEE INCOME AS AN ENTREPRENEUR.
Why? because I had MASTERED this. Because I had DONE this, and because I could show others how to do this. Important point: I did NOT teach others how to replace their employee income while secretly being employed… justifying it because ONCE UPON A TIME I had a solid income month as an entrepreneur.
I did NOT pretend I was living fat while having a business that generated $1MIL in sales. NO, I was honest. I was flying coach, woman. And I made LESS MONEY that year (after all of our expenses) than I did the year before… WELL before anyone “knew my name.” Event-led businesses eat up a LOT of profit, even when you do it right. And having ANY large event in a union-led city… is doing it wrong. Just FYI. #Chicago, I’m looking at you!
I don’t teach others how to raise obedient / compliant kids, how to navigate divorce, how to get past an affair, how to prepare a kid for the SATs, how to train a cat…. FOR A REASON. I’ve not mastered any of these things.
