This quote is made applicable to business far too infrequently. Yet, it certainly applies. Many times, I’ve watched business owners chase clients, mentors, colleagues with a passion that was simply not returned.
In business conferences I hear attendees encourage one another with statements like, “You can’t want it for them more than THEY want it for themselves.”
Priority vs Option.
In our personal lives, we may not understand why someone would choose to treat us as one or the other. But there’s no mistaking which choice they’ve made. Being treated as a priority vs an option is a palpable difference. I urge you — in life and in business — not to make excuses for it… not to overlook it…. but to call it like it is.
The truth is, our time and attention are finite. We ALL have choices to make.
Who / what will we commit to — regardless?
And who / what will we commit to — if nothing else comes up and circumstances are right?
We ALL make certain people / things / groups a priority and others an option. So, try not to take offense. This is human nature.
How can we apply this to our business?
By taking stock of where our own time, efforts and commitments are being invested. Who / What are you making a PRIORITY? Make a list. And then challenge each name on that list. Are they — also — making you and treating you as a priority? Or an option? If it’s the latter, you’re getting far too little return on your investment. RE-invest.
