While old western movies (the ones my Grandad loved) would make it seem that the MAIN way to respond to disappointment — the “applauded” way to respond to upset — is to stamp our little feet and throw a temper tantrum in the street… this is NOT the way of the strong woman.
In fact, the true leader’s response is never one of public bemoaning of the present circumstances. The strong woman doesn’t demand or desire an audience for her venting… although, i admit it is at times tempting.
I mean, WHO DOESN’T appreciate a friendly commiserator when you’re feeling down?
And wouldn’t it make me FEEL…
just a LITTLE better
to have a friendly chorus of like-minded misery
echoing my cries and pouting?
Cheering my COURAGE for complaining out loud? lol…
I’m sure it would.
But it’s not the way of a true leader. It’s not the way of a strong woman. No, because it is the mediocre masses who need outside affirmation of their feelings and constant commiserating in their sadness. Not us.
Not us.
So, what do I do…
when I am disappointed or mad
or betrayed or stabbed in the back
or sad or confused?
First, I double down on my inner game. When my emotions threaten to run amuck, and — of course this happens — I MUST be sure my inner reservoir of thoughts, principles, clarity and strength does not become stagnant. In these moments (or seasons) I am DILIGENT about stirring up what is already within me, so that
1) my confidence and certainty and STRENGTH rises to the top and
2) nothing is rotting just below the surface… left hidden and unchallenged.
Then, I remember my vision. MY vision, MY plan, MY purpose. I reacquaint myself with the call God placed on MY life… and I ask, “Do these circumstances somehow CHANGE the call on my life?”
I’m 43 years old and will be 44 this year.
Not once has the answer to this been yes.
Finally, I make a plan.
A plan always helps FAR more than a pile of pandering commiserators. A plan for my own action, to take back control of my thoughts, of my environment, of my circumstances.
Because woman…
no one is coming…
it’s up to you.
P.S. NOW right here at the beginning of 2021 is the BEST time to join Women Who WOW… Here’s a quote from a recent Authority Magazine interview… about our membership:
“We are a high drive, high touch community, but what really separates us is the results our members create. Women change when they join WOW. They walk taller, and with some well-deserved swagger. They’re more confident in their marketing and go all in on what makes them unique within the marketplace. Essentially, we grow the woman at the helm of the business which naturally and quickly grows the business she leads.
Part sisterhood, part business school, and part “success greenhouse,” Women Who WOW filled a gaping hole in the entrepreneurial market place.” Message me about joining.
