The short answer is: A LOT. The better answer is this:
ALL of really profitable marketing hinges on the fact that you know your market intimately. You want to know:
- what they talk about,
- where they hang out,
- what they need solved,
- their experiences with (and perceptions of) others in your industry,
- who or what they’re mad at,
- who they love,
- what causes they champion, and
- generally, what they’re about.
