In this week’s Weekly Hustle Challenge (a weekly ADVANCEMENT strategy / assignment that will never take more than 20 minutes) these words came up… discussing how we “accidentally” take the VIGOR and POTENCY out of our marketing, usually in the name of being “professional” or following some sort of blueprint that PROMISED to make us a ton of money.
The thing is,
anything soft and flaccid and impotent is well… impotent.
Impotent =
useless.
powerless
ineffective.
weak
and inadequate.
Flaccid =
weak.
hanging.
looking unpleasant.
lacking force.
(List of synonyms straight from Mr. Webster.)
So, here’s the question: How much IMPOTENCE and FLACCIDITY is present in your current marketing, and let’s face facts… ZERO amount of impotence is truly acceptable.
Because, yuck.
And also because to PENETRATE the noise and the chaos and the animosity in the marketplace right now we MUST be able get the job done. We can’t go to market with a limp noodle of a message, no matter how “proven” it supposedly is.
The key to marketing in a way that
1) generates demand for YOUR voice/ view/ approach
and
2) COMPELS people to reach out to you regarding working with you.
Is this:
Bringing so much of YOURSELF to market that there is REALLY no comparison, showing up in such a way that you are TRULY viewed as showing up in a category of ONE.
This is NOT about ego or even confidence really… it’s about marketing strategically.
— identifying the parts of your past, persona, and approach that you can NEARLY build a “caricature” around, aggrandizing them so that they stand on their own, LEADING those who resonate all the way to your door;
— determining the stories and strategies that FULLY showcase your UNIQUE position within the market;
— strategically messaging in a way that is SO specific and SO compelling that it cuts through all the noise… and “competition,” if you still consider that sort of thing.
— show up in such a way and with such value that you don’t HAVE TO rely on ads or retargeting to get people to come to you or come back to you. They come LOOKING for what they may have missed. (nothing WRONG with ads OR retargeting, just there’s no reason to RELY on them.)
— standing TALL on the TRUTHS about yourself and your work that you can OWN completely and fully. (No fear of being outed as an imposter if you’re fully in YOUR and THE truth.)
Anyway, THIS sort of marketing is the OPPOSITE of flaccid and impotent. THIS sort of marketing will rock your world. THIS is the sort of marketing that people tell friends about, watch from a distance, gossip about and OTHERWISE fuel your success in all the ways.
So, why doesn’t everyone do it?
WHY is so much of the noise here on the socials SO MUCH the same? Why so much sameness and silliness and desperation?
BECAUSE limp, flaccid, impotent marketing — while no one wants it or wants to admit they have it — is easy. It’s non-confronting, non-emotional. It risks nothing and requires ONLY that you cut / paste and then cross your fingers it’ll work… this time.
BECAUSE powerful, juicy, PENETRATION-able marketing demands a ruthless and unapologetic authenticity and honesty. In some cases, it may require that you aDMIT (to yourself) that you’ve been full of shite for a while now, that you have a problem, that it’s not working.
And bECAUSE too few women (in particular) were raised to DEPEND ON THEMSELVES as a FIRST option, to want the ball when the game is on the line, to BE ALL OF THEMSELVES in every moment.
And woman…
THIS is what the market
Your market
WANTS …
from a doctor, attorney, coach, trainer, leader, therapist, all the things.
They want someone who STANDS and STANDS tall,
someone who KNOWS what they are AMAZING at,
and leaves the rest to others,
someone who markets what they have MASTERED
and not just whatever is popular in the moment.
If you are ready..

FAR more profitable,
FAR less angst-y..
