It seems that having a strong work ethic would be an ASSET to the small business owner. And it is. At least at first. When you’re starting out, working harder for yourself than you’d ever work for anyone else, when you’re willing to trade hours for dollars, the stronger and more ingrained your work ethic, the better. A heavy dose of defiance and optimism won’t hurt either.
But there came a time in my business during which my work ethic and my belief in working hard truly worked against me. You see, I never ever doubted my ability to create an income as a self-bosser. I KNEW that could be done if I were willing to work at it. But when it came time to leverage my skills and business assets for more passive income, I was quick to dismiss the notion as fool’s gold.
I talk more about this in a revealing recorded training here.
Not only did I dismiss the idea of TRULY passive income, I mocked it. A lazy woman’s way to poverty, I thought. And, let’s be HONEST HERE. There’s a LOT of hype and lies and deception going on in the “passive income” space these days. But, throwing the passive income baby out with the over-hyped bath water cost me an untold amount of profit over the years. And I regret it.
I eventually decided to try my hand at it to see what was REALLY possible…. not for celebrities or for those rubbing elbows in those incestuous affiliate circles, but for people like me.
And I’m so glad I did. Because I realized two things:
1) Passive income is — as Pat Flynn says — all about working hard now so you can reap the benefits later. It’s about front loading your effort. So, while it BECOMES passive, it’s not entirely effortless. Nothing worth pursuing ever is.
2) It’s SUPER possible to create a solid income stream from digital products. NOT THE WAY I see anyone else doing it / teaching it, but the way I do it… totally do-able for anyone interested. You can learn to generate your first $1K in digital products here.
