THIS IS WHY I BECAME A WOMAN ENTREPRENEUR.
Twenty years ago, there were no business coaches. Facebook didn’t exist. Blogging hadn’t been invented yet. Websites were prohibitively expensive. It was “suspicious” to work from home. Email was “around” but too few used it. It hadn’t “caught on” yet.
But I was determined.
Determined to be home with my kids the way my Mom was home with me.
Determined to give mY ALL to this parenting thing.
Determined not to “hire it out” with nannies or childcare or whatever.
Was I passionate about business back then?
NO.
I was passionate about this growing family of mine.
Period.
I didn’t know SQUAT about business.
I was ambivalent towards it.
All I knew was that I needed money,
and to make money
I would have to offer to do something for someone,
name a price, and
allow them to say yes or no.
Period.
No funnels. No website. No email list. No social media. No mentor. No templates to follow.
Just sheer grit and determination.
I NEVER had an issue with working.
(Although I think my in-laws were QUITE nervous when we announced I’d be quitting my job.)
I am a worker.
Work is NOBLE.
But,
I wanted to work on MY terms…
so I could focus on these kids.
And my marriage, which is my first love.
I wanted to do it right,
to go all in.
And EVENTUALLY I fell in love with entrepreneurship.
I fell in love with the UNLIMITED ways you could make a living… while enjoying a life.
I fell in love with making my own rules.
I fell in love with the growth it required of me as a woman.
Today, I run a women’s organization focused on entrepreneurship because I KNOW…
that being an entrepreneur
is the BEST vehicle
for making sure women
are living FULLY empowered
and also FULLY expressed.
And now, my oldest (on the far right) has already moved out. My Middle child (in the softball uniform) will leave for college in August. And my son will be one year behind her.
And you know what?
I made a TON of mistakes.
But NOT making my family a TOP priority
is not one of them.
I’m proud of my family,
of my marriage, and of my kids.
THIS is why I LOVE being an entrepreneur. Why do YOU do what you do?
