(This is a poignant warning for Women Entrepreneurs.)
Here’s the unfiltered truth. Whether you realize it or not, whether you consciously agreed to it or not, in the words of William Whitecloud, “You made a contract with the rest of society to not be [too] powerful.”
What does this have to do with the women-led Super Bowl halftime show and the DIVISIVE response to it? Everything.
You see, industry leaders ALWAYS
step out,
without permission,
and break rank.
It is HOW they become industry leaders.
(And the mediocre masses…
gossip about it. lol…)
They break rank,
do things differently,
and people get downright MAD about it.
Plain and simple.
So women (WOMEN!) went out and started doing what has actually become MORE popular today vs. less:
They started shaming another woman and trying to get public applause and public approval for THEIR OWN opinion. They made ONE opinion (theirs) ABSOLUTELY right and any other opinion 100% wrong. They used words like SHOULD… telling another woman how she SHOULD and SHOULD NOT dress, act, etc. according to the massively offended — and 100% right — “them.”
Shakira and JLo went out and did THEIR thing…
without permission OR apology.
They broke the unspoken agreement with other women — apparently — promising not to be TOO powerful,
TOO full of themselves,
TOO show-y
TOO sexy…
not to command TOO much attention.
not to be TOO much.
And it made people uncomfortable.
It made them MAD…
And look…
I was offended too.
These women are older than me
and they look BETTER,
YOUNGER.
It WAS hard to watch.
Because it kicked my own ass in gear. 😊
I was absolutely CONVICTED of ALL of my excuses about why I DON’T have a body like that.
But the thing with women going out to take a public poll and — like a caucus — get people on “Their side” of the “Was this raunchy?” debate is that:
they were exposing their own unwillingness to stand alone.
their own NEED for others to agree with them,
their own BLATANT ANGER at another woman
DARING to do her thing.
Now, they could have just turned it off.
To save their dignity, 😊
to protect THEIR children from seeing this “display”
(all while PROBABLY having NO idea what their kids have access to on their phones. lol… )
But most did not.
They kept watching,
with the kids.
lol….
Instead of shutting it off, they start crusading…
to make this a hard RIGHT or WRONG issue.
Look,
what goes on in MY HOUSE
is far more important
than what happens in
ANYONE ELSE’s HOUSE.
Every day of the week.
I have cut MANY things off the TV
to set an example for my kids,
but never ONCE have I attempted to shame OTHERS into doing the same.
When I was homeschooling, one of the moms tried to get us “on the same page” about WHEN it was APPROPRIATE (right) for girls to begin going to the spa. She didn’t want to stand alone by being the one setting that rule for HER kids.
I heard a mother recently talk about how she was CALLING other mothers at the school to get everyone on the “same page” about Rated R movies. WHAT??????? Make the rules for YOUR house, and be woman enough to stand alone.
Bottom line: some people — the vast majority of people — are simply UNWILLING to break rank, to stand out, to stand in (and even STRETCH) their own power and potential. Some people are hesitant to break the “agreement” they made with the rest of the world not to be “too much.”
And they have a good reason:
YOU **WILL** BE
DEMONIZED
OUSTED
GOSSIPED ABOUT,
RESENTED
if you do.
That’s the warning to women entrepreneurs:
Break the agreement with the world,
with other women
to not be TOO powerful,
TOO confident,
TOO independent…
and they’ll be uncomfortable…
FURIOUS
and spiteful.
My advice: stand in your power ANYWAY, woman.
ALL true leaders do.
Also, message me about joining Women Who WOW. It’s time, don’t you think?
