Recently, I was interviewed by an online publication and they asked me about what I’m most proud of as an entrepreneur. While I’ve reached — and then abandoned — that 7-figure year as a female entrepreneur, and been able to build THE place for driven women entrepreneurs (the crazy ones!) to gather, learn and get the support and community they need, hang out as a VIP with Daymond John, and had Gary V speak at my event… none of these come close to what makes me MOST proud.
What makes me MOST proud is that first year in business, the year I “marketed” myself as an “at home secretary” — because the term “Virtual Assistant” hadn’t yet been created — and earned $63K. (I have a copy of that one page — printed — letter if you’d like to see it! lol… Just message me!) That first year in business, I quit my job — pregnant and with only $213 in my savings account — and bet FULLY on my ability to REPLACE my income, immediately. And I did it! 20+ years ago, there was no social media, no freebie networking sites and — married to a public school teacher — I had NO option but to succeed. No plan B. Today, that is STILL my proudest accomplishment. I built my “living” around my life, and was able to be the wife and mother I INTENDED to be.
After that interview, I asked our Women Who WOW community of amazing driven women to share with me THEIR proudest — not necessarily their “biggest” — entrepreneurial moment. Here is what they came up with:
I remember how excited I was to receive my first multi-year, multi-million dollar contract like it was yesterday. Shaking my head in disbelief, relishing the moment. Coupled with the deposit making it my first six-figure month as well. This along with publishing my first book when I was told I couldn’t write my senior year in high-school by my English teacher. Tell me I can’t do it and I will. Shelley Smith is the owner of Premier Rapport Inc, a business consulting firm firmly focused on workplace culture. |

My proudest moment came only recently. It was when I realized, I could cause the business life of my dreams to happen by intentionally thinking, speaking, and writing down my desires. I dreamed of becoming a global speaker, trainer, and coach. I wrote it down, I visualized standing on the stage in front of thousands. AND then… IT HAPPENED! I was invited to speak. On July 17, 2021, standing on several stages in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa, I became a global speaker! That was my proudest moment! Barbara Smith’s high energy coaching, corporate training, and public speaking engages, empowers, and converts entrepreneurs, executives, and small business owners from sideline onlookers to actively transformed participants in life and in their careers. |

Just a month after walking out on my failed marriage, my ex hijacked my business websites, shut them down, and cut off my entire income stream. I’m still unsure how I didn’t fall apart in those first moments, but I didn’t. Within an hour I had an attorney on retainer and I contacted my web guy to have him build a new website, without a clue how I would pay them. This experience gave me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and build my business more than I ever realized was possible. A few months into the business, we decided to launch a design challenge to crowdsource product design ideas. We were hesitant because we didn’t know whether anyone would enter or if the submissions would be any good, but we decided that it was worth the $500 prize to find out. We put everything together in three days – the landing page, contest rules, privacy policy, etc. – and went live. By the end, we received 24 entries and we’re now moving forward with producing a couple of the submissions!

My proudest accomplishment in my business was when I received my first reader email. A struggling young mom wrote to thank me for giving her hope that shecould turn things around in her life. She said she was reading one of my postswhile crying in bed from depression and overwhelm. I’m pretty sure I cried that day, too. I’m the founder and Chief Technological Officer of Elevate Delta 8 and I’ve had to deal with a lot of discrimination, bias, and harassment while making my way to the leadership position that I hold today. Out of all of my proudest moments, being who I truly am and being successful at what I’m truly passionate about is my proudest moment. There’s a certain stigma attached to being a female business owner in the cannabis industry which made it a difficult journey but one that was well worth it in the end. Every time a customer talks about the breakthrough that they had or the impact my products have had on their lives, it takes me back to the moment when I knew that I had made it in the industry.

I started an online business in my 50’s. My biggest accomplishment is being nominated twice as Best Internet Marketer by the Infinity Blog Awards. This year, I made the finals in the competition. While working a day job, still raising children living in the home, and spending time with my husband and dogs, I was able to grow my online business into a money-making side hustle. However, my pride lies in the recognition which is invaluable. Janice Wald is the founder of MostlyBlogging.com. Amidst the stress and chaos during that first shutdown of 2020, I started my business English coaching business and realized I needed to write a book to expand my brand and my offerings. I’m most proud of deciding on what I needed to do, then writing, editing, and self-publishing “8 Steps for Interview Prep” and its companion workbook in under 5 months! The proudest moment in my business is when I realized I had grossed 6 figures and I was just 2 years into my business. Watching my daughters have fun in our newly launched painting for kids class was my proudest moment. I recently experienced a rare crossroads moment where I could see the path behind and before me at the same time. My peers and colleagues awarded me the designation of Networker of the Year, acknowledging my efforts to help their businesses stay afloat during the pandemic. It was an ah-ha moment in my shower when I came up with the concept for the RInseroo pet bather and shower cleaner. I brought that concept to fruition and turned it into a top selling product on Amazon but what I am most proud of is the fact that I was able to offer my son a full time job when he graduated from college. My proudest moment was when we were able to seamlessly move all of our in-person events online in March 2020. This enabled the MOB Nation to make networking, referrals, and support available to as many women as possible at a time when they were suddenly trying to run their businesses while also homeschooling. Six years into the business, I’ve had many big champagne moments, but my most proud success moment is supporting my mother in recovery from surgery fully. The proudest moment I had in my business was when I self-published my book on Amazon and reached the #1 best seller status in my category. Publishing a book had been on my bucket list for many years and this was the year that I was determined to make it happen. Not only did my book achieve #1 best seller status, it’s also been a lead generator for my online business allowing me to reach people who would have never heard of me otherwise.

My coaching practice was extremely successful. I was booked out for months, my classes were always full with a wait list, and people would drive for hours to work with me. My proudest moment was the day I left private practice work and restructured my business to prioritize my needs and well-being over the demands of others. This was the day that I was finally able to take my own advice to take care of myself first, so that I could take care of others more efficiently and effectively. While I have helped all of my clients increase their traffic and Google rankings significantly, the accomplishments I’m always most proud of are when small businesses tell me how working on their Local SEO has changed their businesses and their lives. As the founder of my own website, my proudest moment is when I published my title of “CEO” on the ”About US” page. This is when the realization set in that I was now a part of the C-suite community as a woman. It reminded me of not only the extra struggles and hardships that, not only I, but all women in the workforce have to endure to advance ourselves in the world of business. It inspired me to greater heights but at the same time to be humble and grateful for the journey.

My most proud moment was when I realized we’d hit a million dollar run rate. It was during the pandemic and there was not a lot going on other than being able to work our booties off so when I did the numbers at the end of the month and realized we’d hit that benchmark I felt such a great sense of accomplishment! It was made even more exciting when we hit a $2 million run rate only 6 months later!

Every day I’m gratified to hear stories of children being comforted by our character, Trouble The Dog. Those heartwarming stories – as well as the sheer number of kids in today’s upside down world who need comfort and hope – are literally why I keep moving forward. If I could choose a moment to be “proud” it would be of my accomplishment in finally having Trouble The Dog manufactured here in America. This feat took me all day every day for about six months – I couldn’t believe how difficult it was – before I achieved that goal with the help of our valued manufacturer, American Bear Factory. Sheila Duncan is co-creator of the popular character Trouble The Dog and author of three children’s books: “Here’s Trouble” and “Where There’s Trouble, There’s Hope” and “Trouble’s In Trouble!” |

My most proud moment isn’t a “moment”. Instead, it’s the sum total of the work that I put in to keep my late father’s legacy alive and thriving – doubling the size of his business after his unexpected passing. I accomplished this without sacrificing the life balance needed to be a good wife and mother of 2 active teens. With all of the extra demands often placed on women, the success juggling both work and home and knowing in my heart I was present for both is by far my proudest “moment.”

My proudest moment was when I saw my first stranger out and about wearing Ma’am Shoes. I had to do a double take. She looked so chic! It brings me so much joy to see people – not just my friends and family who have to say nice things – loving our products, enthusiastically wearing our shoes and finding creative ways to dress them up or down to make Ma’ams a part of their daily lives.

Since starting my business, my proudest moment was definitely when one of my first clients literally fell out of her chair and called her bank after thinking someone reverse robbed her. The initial success of our campaigns were so outstanding that my client bruised her tail bone and was certain the bank made a mistake in depositing too much into her account. While I do not condone violence, it will be hard to top how much joy I got from our campaigns kicking — or bruising — ass. Four years ago, I quit my corporate job to start my content creation and online coaching business with the dream of working in the tropics from wherever I could find wi-fi. I am now writing this having just flown from Hawaii to Bali as I continue to work and grow my business. My MOST PROUD moment in business was when I helped my first client realize her potential, build her online nutrition business, craft her letter of resignation, and quit her corporate job. I relived that pivotal moment through her, and it was so much more rewarding with someone else!” Danielle Hu, Founder of The Wanderlover. |

My proudest moment had nothing to do with money. My team of employees nominated me to receive an award without my knowledge. To do so, they each had to write why they thought I should receive the recognition. They shared their letters after they were submitted and I was in awe as I went through each one recounting how I shaped their life in some way. I always knew I wanted to be a good leader and a good boss, but sometimes, as entrepreneur’s, we lose sight of the impact we can make on other’s lives because we get caught up in the daily routine. I didn’t win that award, but I won all the same. Renee Bauer is the Managing Attorney at Happy Even After Family Law in Connecticut. She is an author, podcast host and speaker. |

My proudest moment came one day as I walked along the lake on our 7.4 acre property and realized that I’d bought this – I’d provided a beautiful, tranquil home for my husband and babies – purely with my own brain and effort. That’s when I knew life-shifting power lay within me and I began to trust it.

The moments I feel most proud about my business, Silk or Lace aren’t hitting monetary milestones. While they’re important, what keeps me jumping out of bed in the morning are each of the thousands of DMs and emails we get from customers who thank us for helping them feel confident, beautiful – and ultimately THEMSELVES again. I have a lot of proud moments, but I’d have to say one of my most proud accomplishments was after I decided to take the leap to full-time freelancing, I ended up getting divorced (I have two young children to boot) and wasn’t sure I’d make it through without getting a “job.” Low and behold, I would survive a pandemic and be presented MORE business opportunities than ever. By no means has this journey ever been easy but between work and family, I’m so incredibly proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish. Not yet 30 years old, I can’t to see what the next decade has in store for me.

My proudest moment as an entrepreneur was publishing my book, Transform Your Stories. I had dreamed of writing my own book since I was 5 years old. In 2019, I finally brought my dream to life. I remember the feeling of holding the first proof copy of my book in my hands, tears streaming down my face, knowing I had made my younger self so proud. My proudest moment was when I was recognized at one of the 99 Limit Breaking Female Founders as compiled by Huffington Post and Thrive Global. Reason being that I had just stepped out on my own and was working so hard but felt very little happening, I felt like I was working in vain. Then I got an email to be added to the list, and I felt like people were noticing. Since this honor, I’ve been featured in Buzzfeed, Forbes and many other prestigious online forums, but that was the starting point. For several months at the beginning of my startup, I was constantly working with various people, who helped me bring my idea to life, from ex-coworkers, friends, etc… all over inconsistent hours, which made things difficult when it came to scaling the business and providing better stability for those I worked with. But, after some time and a lot of struggle, we eventually managed to lock in some high-ranking clients and keep them on retainer, which provided us with stable income for our business. Naturally, this allowed me to put some of the people I worked with on payroll, which to this day, I still consider to be one of the biggest milestones and most rewarding moments of my entrepreneurial journey.

In the early stages of my blog, I wondered if I was connecting with my readers. Sharing recipes was such a huge part of my family growing up. I wanted my blog to be a continuation of that family tradition. One morning I received an email. It was from a dad who thanked me for my recipe and included the sweetest picture of him and his daughter making my muffin recipe together. I cried. Monetary success is nice, but sharing in that moment with a dad and his young daughter is my proudest moment. My proudest moment of success in business was when I left my office job to work remotely, become a leadership coach, and travel. I have wanted to have a location-independent lifestyle for years, so it was a dream come true when I started spending each week in a different city.

After working in architecture, furniture and design for 15 years, I came up with an idea that led me into the world of technology and dating. I was fortunate to start seeing a profit approximately a year after the start date, but two big moments come to mind that I am incredibly proud of. My most proud moment as a female entrepreneur was when one of my clients referred my public relations business to four other company leaders in his network. It was very fulfilling to know that my enterprise’s fantastic results and all the hard work I put into them lead to the referrals!”
