Being a wife and Mom was the ONLY life goal that I went into college knowing. I know that sounds lame or not empowered or whatever, but it was my FULL heart. What did I MOST look forward to? Having a family of my own. Nothing else even came close.
And money? I figured I’d make it “somehow.” (which was ALWAYS my plan, btw… I’d make money SOMEHOW, which has served me incredibly well.)
Anyway, I’ve noticed SO MANY parallels between parenting and business.
1) Your kids AND your business need to be FED.
Now, do NOT believe my kids when they say there’s no food in the house. If you listen to them — and believed them — you’d be getting donations for a food basket and having it delivered. We have food… it’s just healthy and needs to be cooked.
But, your business ALSO needs to be fed and nourished. REGULARLY.. DAILY.
Your business eats LEADS and INTEREST. That is the fuel it turns into sales and money. So, fEED it…. Your job is to funnel in leads and interest.
2) Your kids AND your business need to be INSPIRED.
Both need to have an ALWAYS growing awareness of what’s possible. I read to inspire my business. I am constantly STRETCHING my own vision of what’s possible for me and for my business. (And, of course, for my kids.) I bring success stories into their awareness. I point out people doing WILD and CRAZY things to make a living. Regularly. Daily.
Because if ONE can,
anyONE can.

3) Your kids AND your business need to be protected.
When I was a CPS worker, I was one of the few (too few in my opinion) who would charge a mother with “failure to protect.” CERTAINLY not the first time something happened to your kid, and USUALLY not the 2nd time… but by the THIRD, separate offense, you’re either COMPLICIT or ignorant and neither is acceptable.
As a mom, it’s our primary JOB to protect our kids… to be alert, to be aware, to be WISE. And as a business owner, we ALSO need to offer protection.
Often, we have a plan in place or a trademark or something to protect our business from copy cats. But, I can create WAY faster than they can copy… and so can you.
And here’s where your business REALLY needs to be protected:
Against naysayers..
and against the DEVILS
of discouragement, distraction and disappointment.
